Der Apparat und andere Geschichten by Lukas Ratius

18 February - 15 May 2022

From 18 February to 15 May 2022, the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken presents the artist Anna Ehrenstein and photographer Lukas Ratius in two solo exhibitions. Get a small foretaste of both artistic practices!

Lukas Ratius (born in 1989 in Saarbrücken) works as a freelance photographer and documentary filmmaker in Saarbrücken. His work is characterised by an authentic closeness. With his daily life documentation, Ratius creates a space that allows the existing to be present. He makes raw vulnerability just as visible as strong self-confidence. In his first institutional solo exhibition, the Stadtgalerie is showing mainly works from the Saarbrücken area.

In the photo book Der Apparat (published by Verlag Kettler in July 2021), Lukas Ratius examines the Saarland state structure with an unusual perspective. He highlights the - usually invisible - detailed elements in the administrative and political networks of the federal state. In parallel to some of the artworks from this project, the exhibition displays other works from recent years.

In the courtyard, excerpts from eloquent speech appear from the project Sprachgewalt in which Lukas Ratius collects snatches of sentences from Saarland’s everyday life.
