The photographer Andy Spyra (b. 1984) of Hagen focuses on people and their country, the soil of their culture, and their common surroundings. Andy Spyra goes to the crisis regions of our world that no longer play a role in the headlines and news. Spyra is interested in people, whose painful experiences, traumas, and reality he captures in powerful black-and-white photographs. His series of photographs combine landscapes, snapshots, and portraits of great intensity—as it were, psychograms of places that would otherwise have been long since forgotten, such as the Bosnian Muslims after the genocide in the Yugoslavian War or the Christians in Iraq. Spyra records these contexts in art photographs, in which he makes the visual language itself his theme.
