Fête de la Musique

Saarbrücken celebrates the beginning of summer every year with a wide range of musicians, whose music can be heard all over the city.

Fête de la Musique 2014

Every year on the day of the summer solstice (21st June), the State capital Saarbrücken organises the “Fête de la Musique”. Musicians not only give concerts at many locations in the city centre, but also in the neighbourhoods. All events are free of charge for visitors, for the fundamental principle is: the “Fête de la Musique” is for everyone.

The “Fête de la Musique” gives all musical artists, both men and women, amateurs and professionals, soloists, bands, ensembles, orchestras and DJs the opportunity of introducing themselves to the public. Whether individuals, associations or initiatives are involved: everyone can contribute something to the music programme and there will be something for everyone: to listen to, watch and also sing along.

Culture office-coordinated programme

The Culture Office of the State capital Saarbrücken deals with compiling and coordinating the programme and press and public relations work as well as the GEMA costs and is glad to be of assistance in looking for artists. Power connections can only be provided through the participating bars, cafés and restaurants; the culture office can act as intermediary if necessary.

Origin in Paris

The traditional music festival originates in Paris, where it was held for the first time in 1982. This music festival day to mark the beginning of summer is now cerebrated in more than 340 cities all over the world, including 20 in Germany and 60 in Europe. Saarbrücken freely takes part based on the motto “anyone who can play music can go out on the street on 21st June and welcome the summer!”. The musicians bring the State capital alive with the sound of music in city squares and streets, alleys and corners.
